Massive Update #1 - Juliet’s 2nd Birthday

November 9th, 2007

Well, as I promised I’m trying to get back on the blogging horse. These past 2 months I’ve been traveling so much and had so much happen it’s been hard to be consistent. It’s funny, actually. I’ve kept a journal nearly every day for the past 20 years. I have no problem finding time to write in that. Yet, to sit down and put out a post challenges me. It’s the not the writing part that gets me. I’ve got 40 posts sitting on my hard drive I could post right now, it’s just that I’m so picky about the editing, the pictures, the tone, etc that I end up freezing and not posting at all.

I’ve really got to get past that. From now on, I’ll just have to post what I have each night and you’ll have to bear with me if it’s not perfect.

Anyway, now that the housekeeping is out of the way … on to other things.

This weekend we celebrated the Kitten’s 2nd Birthday! We did all the typical things the proletariat does when celebrating. Cake, ice cream, candles, etc. We didn’t invite many people but it was a nice cosy time. We had a devil of a time trying to talk Kitten into blowing out her candles. In the end, mommy had to do it. No amount of coaxing could convince her that the little flame wasn’t going to just burn her pigtails off.

Of course, in a child’s mind the only thing that matters is how much good loot they make off with. The Kitten, to put it mildly, made out far better than I ever did as a kid. Dora the Explorer Animal Horn, Elmo gear, most of the Baby Gap’s and Gymboree’s local store stock. You get the picture. To top it all off, Opa and Oma (Tommy Lee Jones and DramaMama) got her an mini electric SUV.  Also, Johnny Longfellow and Holly GoLightly surprised her with a mad tricycle which was way cooler than anything that existed when I was a toddler.  What made that gift even more touching is that their wedding is coming up next week and I know that took alot of their precious time to find the perfect one.  Between the SUV and the bike I can tell that my immediate future will involve hours and hours of teaching her to steer.

Still there is nothing quite like seeing your little girl excited and happy. It makes the planning, the cleanup and the general mayhem all worth it.

She *just* knew that candle couldn’t be trusted.
Scared of the candles.

Obviously the presents were a hit.
Happy Birthday!

Saturday before the party, I managed to talk Pussycat into going to the park with me for some shooting. We dropped off the Kitten at her grandparents house and made a day of it. We finally had a belated anniversary dinner, shot some pictures and had the first day alone in a month. It was glorious.

I married to this hottie.
